Sherri Hellman

Sherri began her role as Director of Community Engagement & Enrollment in September of 2022 and is excited to be part of the Hillel Community Day School.

Sherri comes to Hillel with 28 years of extensive experience in the art of children’s programming. As Founder/Director of the Creative Arts Studio, a multi-disciplinary arts center in Brooklyn, New York, established in 1995, Sherri’s vision of giving the Gift of Self Expression to the community at large came to life through Dance, Drama, Music & Art. During her time at Creative Arts, she created, directed, produced and implemented summer arts camps, family programs, student dance/theater company performances and more. Through Creative Arts she continues to direct a movement program for the Brooklyn Preschool of Science incorporating science-based movement activities to enhance the daily curriculum and use dance as another tool for learning.

In 2020, Sherri was asked to sit on the School Leadership Team as Chairperson at the District 31 Public School in New York City where she played an integral role in school-based decision making and the development of educational policies. Shortly thereafter, she was selected to become the Naples Street Elementary School Healing Ambassador, with the sole purpose of helping to reconnect the community in prioritizing wellness and self care. As a part of this ambassadorship, Sherri single-handedly developed and implemented the Family Forum/Wellness Collective (FFWC) a program intended to bring the community together with a focus on wellness and healing centered school approach.

Sherri holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Adelphi University in Long Island, New York. Post-graduating, Sherri spent the next 15 years performing as a professional modern dance artist with New York City-based dance companies. She traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad teaching university master classes / workshops, staging professional dance works and touring/performing.

Her biggest accomplishment is the birth of her son Raine, who is now a thriving 11-year old kind-hearted, snowboard -loving and budding young chef featured on the online cooking website for kids at cookingwithkidz.com.
