SMART Board Success

Mazel Tov to Hillel Community Day School for being one of only 76 schools in the U.S. to meet their obligation to Legacy Heritage SMARTBoard project, by submitting at least 10 qualified lessons per SMARTBoard to SJED (SMART Board Jewish Educational Database).  These lessons were created by Hillel instructors and have been added to SJED’s official list of resources to be used by teachers all over the country!

Sara Futerman Honored at Annual Scholarship Dinner

Sara Futerman, a former Hillel parent, grandparent and strong supporter of Hillel Community Day School, was honored at the annual Scholarship Dinner on June 8, 2010. Sara and her beloved husband Mike (z"l), founder of Hahn Automotive Warehouse, Inc., have made giving back to the community a top priority.  It is Hillel’s privilege to count Sarah Futerman among its many friends. It was especially appropriate that she was honored in a way that will support scholarships for current and future students.

The Hillel Community Day School choir sang and spoke in English, Hebrew and Yiddish at the dinner.  Hillel students sang the “Star Spangled Banner” and “Hatikva”, followed by a special serenade for Mrs. Futerman and our guests with songs including “Oyn Pripetshik”, in Yiddish.

New Salad Bar

Have you seen our brand new Hillel Community Day School salad bar?  Thanks to a generous donation from the Charles J. and Burton S. August Family Foundation, Hillel students have a brand new salad bar that keeps their salad, fruits, yogurts, cottage cheese and veggies extra fresh, and comes equipped with a sneeze guard to keep away germs.  We are extremely grateful for this generous donation that enabled us to purchase a piece of equipment that we all can enjoy!

Student Trip to Israel

Every Eighth Grade class at Hillel is offered the opportunity to take an exciting two- week excursion through Israel.  In addition to their educational training for this trip, they take an active role in fundraising efforts to cover a large portion of the cost.   It is the culmination of the years they have spent at Hillel and solidifies their connection to the heritage of the Jewish people.  Here is an account of their experience in their own words:

When the 5 of us first began fundraising for our Israel trip, it didn’t even seem like a reality.  We had so much to accomplish and even thinking of traveling to Israel with just the girls in our class seemed more like a dream than a reality.  But we did it! We look back now on this amazing trip that we all worked for and embarked on together.  Knowing that we made this happen makes us feel that the things we can accomplish are endless when we put our minds together and have a great support system of our parents and Hillel.   Having the opportunity to visit all the places we learned about in the Torah and feeling such a strong connection to Israel and Hashem is an experience we will never forget.
