Hillel Community Day School of Rochester, New York, is a kindergarten through eighth grade day school providing an enriched curriculum of general and Judaic studies. We foster positive American and Judaic values.

Mission Statement

Hillel Community Day School’s mission, as a community day school, is to offer the highest quality general and Jewish education possible for children of the Greater Rochester Jewish community. Emphasis is on providing a foundation that will give students the basis for going forward as knowledgeable and committed Jews. Hillel Community Day School is sincerely committed to imbuing its students with a traditional, ethical and moral outlook on life and developing in them positive feelings and attitudes towards the values of Judaism.

Statement of Purpose

Every Jewish child inherits our religion and rich culture. This inheritance can be acquired by learning and living traditional Judaism daily. For children, loving teachers and peers can help provide this opportunity. Hillel Community Day School serves as trustee, along with the home, to assure that every Jewish child in our community has full access to his or her inheritance.

As a community day school, Hillel Community Day School serves the Rochester area as a school for both general and Judaic studies, with children coming from all segments of the Jewish community as we make every practical effort to accommodate individual needs of each child. We strive to develop a well-balanced Jewish individual, knowledgeable in and committed to the principles of Jewish living and those in our democratic society. We endeavor to preserve and enhance our people, our religion and our heritage through knowledge of nurturing-based experiences.

FUNDAMENTAL OBJECTIVES


I.     We maintain a comprehensive Jewish studies program, which incorporates traditional Jewish teachings and values into the students' lives and ensures the mastery of the Hebrew language. Elements of this program include:

A.    Instilling the love and reverence of G-d.
B.    Teaching Bible, Talmud, Mishna, Siddur, Jewish history and philosophy.
C.    Encouraging Torah ethics and values, prayer, and commitment to Judaism by their practice in the school.
D.    Instilling a love for the land and State of Israel.
E.    Transmitting Jewish culture and heritage.


II.    To maintain in the general studies program the highest standard of academic excellence possible in a private school by providing:

A.    An enriched, flexible environment, which includes accelerated, remedial and differentiated instruction.
B.    Small classes with individual attention.
C.    A dedicated faculty committed to the development of each child's potential.
D.    An opportunity for active parental involvement in the educational process.


III.   To develop the intellectual, spiritual, emotional, social and physical growth of each child by:

A.    Generating pride, self-confidence and love of learning.
B.    Offering individual attention, opportunity and challenge.
C.    Instilling both cooperation and self-reliance.
D.    Fostering intellectual curiosity, initiative enthusiasm, and critical analysis.
 

IV.   To contribute a responsible sense of community in the school, the Jewish community and beyond, by encouraging:

A.    Respect for every Jew and an appreciation of differences in observance.
B.    Strong camaraderie with classmates.
C.    Pride in Hillel Community Day School.
D.    Identification with local, national and worldwide Jewish communities.
E.    Responsibility as American citizens.
