The New York State Education Department has redefined proficiency standards in order to ensure that students are on track for college entry. As a result of raising the bar for what it means to be proficient, fewer students across the state met or exceeded the proficiency standard than in previous years. This has led to a systemic review of the NYS testing service.  Despite these changes, the bulk of students attending Hillel Community Day School met or exceeded the proficiency standards.

These figures reflect the performance of all students, including Second Language Learners and students with disabilities:

  • 97% of Hillel Community Day School students in grades 3-8 met or exceeded the Basic Standard in English Language Arts.
  • 86% of all Hillel Community Day School students in grades 3-8 met or exceeded the Proficiency Standard in English Language Arts.
  • 100% of Hillel Community Day School students in grades 3-8 met or exceeded the Basic Standard in Math
  •  97% of Hillel Community Day School students in grades 3-8 met or exceeded the Proficiency Standard in Math.

We are also pleased to share the success of the students who took the 8th grade Regents exams:

  • Every Eighth grade student received Regents Credits in Earth Science and Integrated Algebra.
  • All Hillel Community Day School Students who took the Hebrew Regents scored above 90%.

This year we will be offering a Core Support Academic InterventionProgram to assist students who

have been identified as needing additional instructional support in the areas of Reading, Writing,

Study Skills, Organization, or Social Skills. Students who have been identified as Second Language

Learners will also receive in-school tutoring.

“There are so many subjects I enjoy.  In Gym, we get to learn how to play many different sports, like hockey, basketball and soccer.  We learn a lot of new skills.  I like that we also get to experience both Hebrew and English every day. I learn more about both subjects in all my classes.  My teachers provide me with many opportunities to use my creativity.  There are no bullies here and everyone is family.” – Ben Rosenbaum
